Visiting the Hassan II Mosque: Hours, Prices and Tips
The Hassan II Mosque is Casablanca's most visited landmark. Opened in 1993, it is partly built over the ocean and its minaret rises more than 200 meters. It is one of the few mosques in Morocco that non-Muslims can visit.
How do the tours work?
Visits are only possible with an official mosque guide. Tours last about 45 minutes and cover the prayer hall, the ablution rooms and the traditional hammam in the basement. Tours run in several languages, including English, French, Spanish and German.
Times vary by day, by season and during Ramadan. There is usually no tour on Friday morning, the day of the main prayer. Check that day's schedule on site or on the mosque's official website before you go.
How much does it cost?
A ticket costs around 130 to 150 dirhams for a foreign adult, with reduced prices for students and children. Prices can change, so bring some cash, even though cards are often accepted.
What should I wear?
- Shoulders and knees covered, for women and men
- A headscarf for women is appreciated
- Shoes that are easy to remove: you take them off in the prayer hall, and a bag is provided
Our tips
- Arrive 15 minutes before the tour: the queue can be long in summer.
- Come back at sunset: the esplanade is free to enter and the light over the ocean is superb.
- Combine it with the old medina and the Corniche, both nearby.
How to get there
From our apartments in Maarif, allow 10 to 15 minutes by red petit taxi. From the Oasis neighborhood, about 20 minutes. The tram also stops nearby. See our available apartments to stay a few minutes from the mosque.
