Things to Do in Casablanca: 20 Must-See Activities

Casablanca is known as a business city, but visitors who stay a few days discover a lively place of ocean views, architecture and street food. Here are the 20 activities we recommend to our guests.

Landmarks to see

  1. Hassan II Mosque: built over the ocean, it is one of the few mosques in Morocco open to non-Muslims, on guided tours.
  2. Boulevard Mohammed V: the city's finest Art Deco street, lined with 1920s and 1930s facades.
  3. Sacré-Cœur Cathedral: a white 1930s church now used for exhibitions.
  4. Mohammed V Square: a fountain, pigeons and neo-Moorish public buildings.
  5. Rick's Café: a restaurant inspired by the film Casablanca, on the edge of the old medina.

Neighborhoods to explore

  1. The old medina: alleys, stalls and ramparts facing the port.
  2. The Habous quarter: souks, bookshops, olives and Moroccan pastries.
  3. Maarif: shops, cafés and restaurants at the heart of city life.
  4. Gauthier and the Golden Triangle: Art Deco buildings and good addresses.
  5. The Ain Diab Corniche: sunset walks, beaches and beach clubs.

Eat and drink

  1. Try grilled fish at the Central Market.
  2. Sip mint tea on a café terrace in Maarif.
  3. Dine on a rooftop with a view over the city.
  4. Taste the pastries of the Habous quarter.
  5. Order couscous on Friday, like the locals.

Relax and stay active

  1. Run or walk along the Corniche in the morning.
  2. Spend a beach day in Dar Bouazza or Bouznika.
  3. Go shopping at Morocco Mall or Anfa Place.
  4. Visit the Villa des Arts and the galleries downtown.
  5. Take the train for a day trip to Rabat or El Jadida.

Where to stay to do it all on foot or by tram

Our apartments in Maarif are minutes from downtown and the Corniche. For a quieter stay, the Oasis neighborhood offers apartments with a rooftop pool. All our homes have 24/7 self check-in, so you arrive whenever suits you.
