Day Trips from Casablanca: 6 Easy Escapes
Casablanca is an excellent base for discovering Morocco. Thanks to the train network and motorways, several cities are within a day's reach.
1. Rabat, the capital (about 1 h by train)
The Hassan Tower, the Mausoleum of Mohammed V, the blue-and-white lanes of the Kasbah of the Udayas, the medina and the Bou Regreg valley. Trains leave often from Casa Voyageurs and Casa Port.
2. El Jadida (about 1 h 30)
The Portuguese city of Mazagan, a UNESCO site, and its famous underground cistern. A town beach rounds off the day.
3. Azemmour (about 1 h 15)
A small white medina on the Oum Er-Rbia river, known for its artists and murals. Combine it with El Jadida.
4. Marrakech (about 2 h 40 by train)
Doable in a day if you leave early, though a night there is more comfortable. Jemaa el-Fna square, souks and gardens.
5. Mohammedia (about 30 minutes)
A beach, a marina and a promenade: an ocean break without a long journey.
6. Oualidia (about 2 h 30 to 3 h)
A turquoise lagoon, fresh oysters and total calm. Ideal for a relaxing day.
