SIM Cards and Internet in Morocco: How to Stay Connected

Roaming can be very expensive in Morocco. A local SIM card or eSIM costs little and gives you internet everywhere. Here is how.

The three operators

Morocco has three mobile operators: Maroc Telecom, Orange Maroc and inwi. All three cover Casablanca well, with 4G across the city.

Where to buy a SIM card

  • At Mohammed V Airport: operator stands welcome travelers in arrivals, sometimes with free SIM cards.
  • In town: at operator shops and many small retailers.
  • ID: your passport is required to register the card.

Topping up and choosing a plan

You buy a SIM, then a data top-up. Top-ups are sold in shops, at small retailers or in the operators' apps. For a few dozen dirhams you get several gigabytes.

eSIM: no card needed

If your phone is compatible, an eSIM installs before you leave and works as soon as you land. Several international apps and operators offer plans for Morocco. Compare prices: a local SIM is often cheaper for a long stay.

Our tips

  1. Check your phone is unlocked before you travel.
  2. Keep your home SIM somewhere safe.
  3. Download an offline map of Casablanca just in case.
